ACADEMY AWARD WINNERS & NOMINEES

These Awards, Also Called Oscars, Are Awarded To Most Of The Qualifying Films In The Calendar Year After Their Theater Release

 

 These 15 Cairn Films earned a total of 49 Academy Award Nominations. They won a combined total of 11 Oscars.

 

1936-The Dark Angel- released in 1935. This picture garnered three Academy Award nominations. Best Actress in a Leading Role, Best Art Direction, and Best Sound Recording.

1940 - The Wizard of Oz released 1939,  This picture garnered a total of seven nominations including a special Oscar for Juvenile Performance minted just for Judy Garland.  It won three Oscars including the special Oscar for Judy Garland's multiple film performances that year. Wizard won Oscars for Best Music Original Song and Best Music Original Score. It had rough competition as the Awards that year mainly split between the Wizard of Oz, Gone With The Wind, and The Rains Came. The Wizard of Oz was nominated for Best Picture, Best Cinematography-Color, Best Art Direction, Best Effects-Special Effects. Judy Garland was awarded a special Best Performances By A Juvenile Oscar for her work in both "The Wizard of Oz" and "Babes In Arms" for that year.

1942 - The Chocolate Soldier released 1941, This picture garnered a total of three nominations. It was nominated for Best Cinematography- Black and White, Best Sound- Recording, and Best Music-Scoring of a Musical Picture.

 1943 - Reap The Wild Wind released 1942, This picture garnered a total of three nominations and one Oscar win. It won the Oscar for Best Effects-Special Effects. It was nominated for Best Cinematography-Color, Best Art Direction-Interior Decoration-Color.

1944- Airforce released in 1943, This picture won the Oscar for Best Film Editing. It was nominated for Best Effects-Special Effects, Best Cinematography-Black and White, and  Best Writing-Original Screenplay.

1945-Mrs. Parkington released in 1944. This picture was nominated for two awards. Best Actress In A Leading Role, and Best Actress in A Supporting Role.

1946- The Valley of Decision released in 1945. This picture garnered two Oscar nominations. It was nominated for Best Actress in a Leading Role and Best Music Scoring of a Dramatic or Comedy Picture.

1947- The Ghost and Mrs. Muir released in 1946. This picture was nominated for Best Cinematography- Black and White. It was a great film in a year of many great films. Fans will feel that it was underappreciated.

1958- Pal Joey released in 1957. This picture was nominated for four Oscars. It was nominated for Best Art Direction-Set Decoration, Best Sound Recording, Best Film Editing, and Best Costume Design.

1960-Anatomy of A Murder released in 1959. This picture was nominated for Best Picture, Best Actor in A Leading Role, it received two nominations for Best Actor In A Supporting Role as George C. Scott and Arthur O'Connell were both nominated, Best Cinematography-Black and White, Best Film Editing, and Best Writing-Screenplay based on Material from Another Medium.

1972-Mary Queen of Scots released in 1971. This film won every category in which it was nominated. It was nominated and won for Best Actress In A Leading Role, Best Art Direction-Set Decoration, Best Sound, Best Music-Original Dramatic Score, Best Costume Design.

1997-The Portrait of A Lady released in 1996  This film was nominated for two Oscars. It was nominated for Best Actress in a Supporting Role, and Best Costume Design.

1997-Twister was released in 1996. This film was nominated for two Oscars. It was nominated for Best Effects-Visual Effects, and Best Sound.

2007-Children of Men was released in 2006. This film was nominated for three Academy Awards. It was nominated for Best Writing Adapted Screenplay, Best Acheivement in Cinematography, and Best Achievement in Film Editiing.

2008- Elizabeth: The Golden Age released in 2007. This film won the Academy Award for Best Acheivement in Costume Design. It garnered one additional Academy Award nomination. It was nominated for Best Actress in a Leading Role,
